Miriam is a health psychologist and provides private psychology services. Known as a “Coaching Psychologist” due to her over 15 years experience of life and executive coaching. Miriam uses a coaching-style approach, along with an eclectic mix of therapies to assist clients to achieve their goals. This includes counselling, cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), mindfulness, acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), solution-focused therapy, mind-body medicine, hypnotherapy, Time Line Therapy™ and Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP). Miriam has extensive experience and can help for the following presentations:

Miriam relocated from Adelaide to the Sunshine Coast in 2021, and now provides all services via Telehealth (video and phone conferencing). Telehealth provides accessibility and convenience to all Australians, and research has found the therapeutic experience and outcomes are equal to those achieved with an in-person setting. The Australian Government has permanently approved Medicare rebates for psychology consultations. 

Medicare rebates are available for clients referred to Miriam by their GP on a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) (please contact Miriam directly prior to arranging your MHCP with your doctor to ensure your referral to her is appropriate). The Medicare rebate is currently $89.65 per session (as of 1 July 2022). Initial care plan referrals allocate 6 sessions. If further sessions are recommended, you can see your GP for a care plan extension (for a further 4 sessions). Unfortunately, the additional 10 sessions that had been available during 2020-22 have been discontinued by the current Australian Government. 

Private Health Insurance rebates are available for clients with appropriate private health cover (check with your insurer prior to booking your appointment for details on your coverage). Claims may be made on the day of your appointment or can be submitted directly to your private health insurer with the receipt provided.

Session Fees:

 60 minute session – $200 (+$15 after hours surcharge if applicable)

 90 minute session – $280 (+$15 after hours surcharge if applicable)

How Can Psychology Help Me?

A New Perspective. 

One of the things Miriam helps clients with is gaining a new view or perspective on the situations in their lives.  We all get stuck in ruts from time to time, and can begin to feel like we are “stuck” or have “no choice” but to do what we are doing, and often that translates to discomfort, anxiety, or unhappiness. A psychologist can help their clients identify different, previously un-thought-of choices and plans of action.

New Ways of Thinking About the World and Yourself. 

One of the things that psychologists (especially CBT-oriented psychologists) focus on is helping their clients challenge their long-held beliefs and thought patterns.  Often learning to think about things in new, healthier ways can help lead to improved mental health. NLP also provides an excellent set of tools to assist with changing the way we think.

New Set of Skills. 

When it comes to managing stress, anxiety, anger, and other emotions, some of us could use some new, healthier skills.  Much of what psychologists do is teach clients new coping strategies during difficult, stressful times in their lives. Miriam firmly believes the more resources a person has to deal with the challenges of life, the better. That’s what she focuses on practical, useful tools that can be directly used.

A Place to Vent. 

While many clients use their sessions to learn new skills, some use their time with Miriam to vent, explain, be heard, and try to better understand their lives by using her as a sounding board. Miriam provides a confidential, non-judgmental place to talk and explore ways to cope better and achieve better mental health.
